In addition to the estimated income of £20 million a year to Shetland Charitable Trust, the wind farm will pay around £2 million a year in direct community benefit payments. Community engagement on the nature of those payments has been taking place.

The revenues generated by the wind farm could help the Shetland community pay for some of the services and new developments which until now have been paid for out of funds earned from the oil industry's presence in the islands.
